Our Top 5 Favourite Beaches in the Shoalhaven

Our region has so many beautiful beaches to explore; Racecourse Beach, Merry Beach, and Pebbly Beach, with its kangaroos, Rennies, Kioloa, and Jones Beach, to name a few. Narrowing them down is tricky, but we've put together our Top 5 for you to explore this summer.

Narrawallee Beach

Narrawallee Beach is a favourite for us —it's dog-friendly in the mornings and afternoons, so it's an excellent spot for a morning walk or an afternoon stroll. We also love Narrawallee Inlet at the north end, which is great to explore with your little ones.

Ulladulla Ocean Pool

The rock pool at the Boat Harbour in Ulladulla, a short 5-minute drive from Cupitt's Estate, is a great spot to swim some laps and take in the incredible views. The Boat Harbour is great for watching the fisherman, children rock hopping, or people out walking, which makes for a nice, relaxed and friendly spot for a swim.

Top tip:At Seamakes some of the freshest fish and chips in town, but you should also try the tempura prawns. Delicious.

Bogey Hole, Mollymook Beach

The “Bogey Hole” is a large tidal rock pool ideal for bobbing about, enjoyed by a group of local women so much they have amusingly named themselves 'The Teabags'. It's also great for kids, and the outer shelf area is ideal for snorkelling. It is a hidden oasis nestled between the famous "Golf" surfing reef break, Mollymook Beachside Golf course and Mollymook Beach's southern headland. You can access via a short walk around the headland or by a vehicle along Riversdale Avenue, turn left into Burleigh Drive and continue down to the parking area. The name "Bogey Hole" is from an Aboriginal word for "Bathing" and was used by Aboriginal people for 100's or perhaps thousands of years as a place to "Bathe” and trap fish.

Top Tip:Remember to pack a picnic. This place is so lovely you won't want to leave.

Bombie Beach, Ulladulla

The area commonly known to surfers as Racecourse Beach contains three separate beaches with the same surf. The first, Ulladulla Bombie, lies at the southern base of Warden Head, immediately west of the beach. A sheltered beach displays postcard views as you walk towards the ocean, with a 200 m-long pocket of white sand and rock platforms to either end.

Top Tip:A favourite spot for local surfers, the reef off Ulladulla Bombie produces both left and right-hand breaks, holding up to 2 m.

Jervis Bay Beaches

Hyams is the famous beach at Jervis Bay, but they are all so beautiful. Check your weather app to see which wind is blowing to ensure you choose a beach and experience the iconic turquoise water and white sand amongst the gum trees. Orion, Blenheim, Greenfield and Collingwood are some gorgeous beaches.
