What to Drink This Easter: Wine, Food & Family Traditions
Easter for us Cupitt’s has always been about togetherness — the kind that’s messy, meaningful, and full of joy. It’s the kids racing through the gardens on Easter egg hunts, the last-minute setting of a long table, and someone inevitably cracking open a special bottle “just because.”
This season, we’re sharing a few of our favourite wine pairings for Easter — whether you're planning a seafood lunch, a classic lamb roast, or simply looking forward to sharing a glass of something special with your family. We have even compiled the perfectEaster Drinking Wine Packjust for you.
Because let’s be honest: wine always tastes better when it’s shared with the people you love.
For Your Good Friday Feast: Seafood + Chardonnay
A classic Good Friday meal at our place usually starts with seafood — grilled snapper, local prawns, or fresh oysters — often enjoyed outside in that crisp, golden autumn light. Pair it with acool-climate Chardonnay. We love the layered, citrusy style, which brings just enough texture to balance the richness of butter, herbs, or lemony sauces.
Perfect Pairings:
- Grilled prawns with anchovy butter
- Fish pie or creamy pasta
- Our Estate Chardonnay (it’s a family favourite for a reason)
Easter Sunday Roast: Lamb + Cabernet or Tempranillo
A Cupitt family Easter wouldn’t be complete without a big roast lamb lunch — and someone pulling out an older vintage bottle from their travels. These bottles often come with stories: a cellar door visit in Margaret River, a wine bar in Rioja, or a winemaker we once met on a trip.
To pair? Go for something with depth and structure, like aCabernet Sauvignon, or get a little adventurous with aTempranillo. These wines shine with lamb, herbs, and all the sides.
Pairs beautifully with:
- Lamb shoulder with rosemary & garlic
- Duck ragu and polenta
- A good story and a long lunch
For the Side Dishes: Fresh, Green, and Rosé-All-Day
Easter tables tend to be full of vegetable-forward dishes: roasted pumpkin, potato gratin, spring salads, and glazed carrots. For these, we recommend Rosé, Fiano, or Arneis—wines that are fresh and palate-cleansing but full of charm.
Try pairing with:
- Broccolini and romesco
- Garden pesto pasta
- Our Estate Rosé (best served cold and poured generously)
And for the Chocolate (of course): Botrytis Viognier
It's your turn after the kids have demolished their chocolate stash and the sugar high has settled. Rather than reaching for fortified wine, we love pouring a glass of ourBotrytis Viognier— a beautifully aromatic dessert wine with just the right balance of sweetness and freshness. It pairs wonderfully with chocolate and creamy desserts and brings a little luxury to your Easter wind-down.
Pairs best with:
- Milk chocolate eggs
- Lemon Delicious
- A nap on the sofa
Wishing you a safe, joy-filled, wine-friendly Easter from all of us at Cupitt’s Estate.
