International Women's Day Celebrations

International Women's Day is a globally celebrated event on 8 March. The day celebrates women's worldwide social, economic, cultural, and political achievements while calling for gender equality. At Cupitt's Estate we celebrated International Women's Day with an evening 'Sip and Chat' event and a panel discussion and reflected on the progress made towards achieving gender equality and also the work that still needs to be done. One key aspect of this work is embracing equity.

Equity ensures everyone has access to the resources and opportunities they need to reach their full potential, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or other characteristics. When we embrace equity, we acknowledge that systemic barriers exist and work to remove them so everyone can succeed.

It was a beautiful evening where the women came together; there was a sense of community, solidarity, and a positive and empowering atmosphere. After a few cocktails and conversation on the deck, we moved into the dining room for dinner and an interesting and inspiring panel discussion.

Leonie Marsh moderated our panel discussion and included beloved locals Trish Butler, Dean Howcroft, Virgina Connor and Marita Smith. The IWD topic 'embracing equity' was discussed in the context of our community and how we can address the gender-based discrimination and bias that can limit women's opportunities and hold them back. This was considered not only in the context of women and the need to create a more inclusive society for everyone.

We thank all who attended and our courageous panel who shared their stories. So as we celebrate International Women's Day (march is 'Women's History Month), let us commit to embracing equity and working towards a more just and equitable world for all.
