48 Hours on the South Coast Without a Packed Schedule

Quieter beaches, long lunches and a little time to yourself. Why a midweek escape to Milton, Mollymook and Ulladulla might be just what you need.

When was the last time you had two whole days without somewhere you needed to be?

Between work, family, appointments and weekends that somehow fill themselves, finding time to properly switch off can feel harder than it should. But just a few hours from Sydney or Canberra, there's a little pocket of the NSW South Coast where life moves at a different pace.

Mollymook's beaches, Milton's village charm, rolling green hills and a thriving local food and wine scene make this part of the coast a lovely place to spend a few days. And while summer weekends bring plenty of visitors, there's something particularly special about being here midweek.

The beaches feel like they're yours. There's time to linger over a coffee. And the hardest decision of the day might be whether to head to the beach or stay a little longer over lunch.

Day One: Leave the To-Do List Behind

There's a lovely moment when you arrive on the South Coast and catch that first glimpse of the ocean. It's usually about the time you realise you haven't checked your emails for a while.

Stop in Milton for a wander along the main street, stopping in at the independent boutiques, pick up a coffee or settle in for a relaxed lunch at one of the beautiful cafes (there are lots to choose from!).

Then make your way to Cupitt's Estate, tucked into the green countryside between Milton and Ulladulla.

Check into your private villa, take in the views towards the Budawang Ranges and settle into the afternoon. Open a bottle of estate-made wine, sit outside with a book or simply enjoy the quiet.

There's no need to plan every moment.

Day Two: Good Food, Great Wine and Nowhere Else to Be

Wake up without an alarm.

Enjoy a slow breakfast in your villa overlooking the countryside and resident grazing cows before heading to Mollymook Beach for a morning swim or a walk along the sand.

If you're feeling energetic, explore one of the nearby coastal walking tracks. Or perhaps you'd rather book a massage, visit a local sauna or find a sunny spot for a second coffee.

By lunchtime, make your way back to Cupitt's Estate.

A long lunch when you know you don't have to rush back to work, or even have to decide who's driving.

A seasonal menu celebrating local produce, a glass of wine made by the family behind the Estate, and views across the vineyard to the distant Budawang mountains.

Make time for a wine tasting while you're here. Try something new, learn a little about the wines and the people who make them, and perhaps find a new favourite to take home.

Then spend the afternoon exactly as you please. You might head back to the beach, take a bath in your villa if you've booked one with an outdoor tub, or enjoy an afternoon doing very little at all. Afternoon naps are always encoraged.

Sometimes that's the best part of being away.

Day Three: Just One More Morning

There's no need to squeeze in one last big activity.

Enjoy your morning coffee, take in the countryside views and perhaps stop for a final walk along the coast before heading home.

Two nights might not sound like much, but having a full day in between makes all the difference.

You return home with a few lovely memories, perhaps a couple of bottles of wine, and the feeling that you've actually had a proper break.
