Why Our Housekeepers Love Working Here

When people think of housekeeping, they often picture cleaning rooms.

But for our team, it’s something more.

It’s flexibility.

It’s movement.

It’s being part of a place that guests genuinely love.

We recently asked two of our Housekeeping team members, Michael and Kylie, what they enjoy most about the role, and their answers say it better than we ever could.

An active and energising role

For Michael, one of the biggest positives is that the work keeps him moving.

“It’s an active job… compared to being stuck behind a desk,” he says. “You’re inside and outside. You’re keeping yourself mentally and physically active.”

For people who don’t love the idea of sitting at a computer all day, housekeeping offers something different. You’re on your feet, working with your hands, working in the beautiful villas, and seeing immediate results from your effort.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about transforming a room and knowing a guest is about to walk in and feel instantly welcomed, and you were a big part of that.

Flexibility that fits around life

Both Michael and Kylie mentioned flexibility as one of the biggest benefits.

“The reason why I started working here is because of the hours, because I’ve got children,” Kylie explains.

Michael agrees: “I like the flexibility. It gives me time to do all the other things I want to do during the week. You’re not stuck in a 9-to-5.”

For parents, carers, or anyone juggling other commitments, our casual housekeeping roles offer variety in hours across a 7-day roster. This makes it easier to balance work with school runs, appointments, study… or simply life!

Variety keeps it interesting

Cupitt’s has a number of areas that many staff choose to work across, including the kitchen and restaurant.

Kylie loves that she can work across different departments and alongside different teams:

“Some people get sick of doing the same thing… being down in the kitchen too with a different crew as well, to work with is great.”

That variety means you’re part of the wider estate team. You build relationships across departments, learn new skills, and become part of a bigger picture.

Genuine team culture

For Kylie, the connections have been an unexpected bonus.

“I’ve made a lot of nice friends over the last few years,” Kylie says.

Housekeeping can be fast-paced and hands-on, but it’s done together. There’s support, teamwork, and a shared pride in presenting our boutique accommodation at its best.
