The Real Review: Cupitt’s Estate Fiano 2024, Hilltops

Fiano is experiencing a surge of popularity in Australia, with over 70 producers entering their fiani (I might have made that word up) in the recent Alternative Varieties Wine Show in Mildura. Originally from Campania in southern Italy, this variety thrives in warm climates, retaining vibrant acidity even when fully ripe making it an excellent choice for Australia’s sunny wine regions and a great match for many light dishes, including buffalo mozzarella (also originating in Campania).

Medium gold in appearance with a rich, concentrated nose of heady white blossom, lemon curd and vanilla cream. The palate is textural and weighty with light oak-influenced cedar tones overlying zesty acidity, finishing with chalky phenolics and lingering savoury peel notes.

Score: 93 ★★★★ –
